Recognizing that some high impact research may not be available by the general abstract submission deadline, late-breaking allows for the submission of data with a more limited timeframe. Late-breaking abstracts are reserved for highly relevant, impactful research that became available in the last three months. These abstracts will be reviewed using a different set of criteria than general abstracts. Only three late breaking abstracts will be selected for oral presentation. The rest of the accepted late-breaking abstracts will be presented as paper poster presentations or ePosters.
All presenters of late-breaking abstracts must register for the requisite SfN event. Presenters can also choose to purchase a virtual-only registration if they cannot attend the meeting in person. For consistency, all authors listed on the abstract author block are required to have a free My SfN account.
A SfN member can appear as the presenting author on no more than one late-breaking abstract. If an SfN member has an accepted scientific or Theme K abstract and a late-breaking abstract, the scientific content of the presentation at the SfN event must be substantively similar to that presented at the late-breaking session. All late-breaking abstracts must be original and not contain data that has been previously presented or published (including in preprint archives). Violators are subject to abstract withdrawal, and will be barred from presenting at future SfN events.
