When writing news articles, always keep the inverted pyramid format in mind–starting with the most important information first and adding to it as you go. This structure gives readers a quick understanding of the major points so they know what’s most relevant to them. It also helps you avoid jarring readers with sudden switches in voice and person. Use the reader’s first name or initials, not their middle initial unless there is compelling reason for an exception. It’s not necessary to use the full name for a quote, but it should be mentioned if you’re quoting someone.
